Nantucket Island

An Insider’s Guide to Transportation on Your Nantucket Vacation

Are you in the process of planning a Nantucket vacation? Exploring the island becomes a breeze when you understand all the transportation options available to you. At Affordable Rentals, our family has been on the island for over 40 years. Here’s our practical guide to transportation for your Nantucket adventures.

Travel to Nantucket Island

There are a few ways to access the island, each one unique in its own way.

Steamship Authority Ferry

The Steamship Authority offers a reliable way to reach Nantucket. Departing from Hyannis, this ferry takes around 2 hours and 15 minutes to arrive. They offer free Wi-Fi and regular departures each day. We recommend purchasing tickets online.

Hy-Line Cruises

For those in a hurry, the high-speed ferry from Hy-Line Cruises gets you to Nantucket in just about an hour. Departing from Hyannis as well, we highly recommend making your reservation online before you arrive.

Nantucket Airport

Flying into Nantucket Memorial Airport is another convenient option for visiting the island. With several flights arriving daily, the airport's proximity to town makes a quick start to your trip. Airlines like Delta, United Airlines, American, and more offer seasonal service, while Cape Air provides service year-round.

Travel on the Island

Once you've arrived on Nantucket, there are a few ways to traverse the island.

Jeep Rentals

At Affordable Rentals, we're the highest-rated car rental company on the island. Just steps away from the Steamship Ferry Dock and Hy-Line Ferry Terminal, we offer a wide selection of vehicles, including Jeep Wranglers, Jeep Gladiators, electric cars like the BMW i3, and more.

When you choose a rental, it's important to consider which parts of the island you want to explore. Some areas are only accessible with four-wheel drive and with a beach permit. Fortunately, our fleet is perfectly designed for these excursions. Ask us about our beach permits and other add-ons, including beach chairs, coolers, car seats, and more.

Bike Rentals

For an eco-friendly way to explore Nantucket's 35 miles of cycling trails, Cook's Cycles offers eight-speed cruiser, electric bike, and moped rentals. Whether you’re cruising through town or exploring scenic trails, we have the perfect ride for you.

No matter how you plan to experience Nantucket, you'll never run out of corners of the island to explore. So, what are you waiting for? For a Jeep rental for your next Nantucket vacation, contact Affordable Rentals at (508) 313-9313 or book a rental online today!
