If you’re planning a trip to Nantucket in October to experience the fall foliage and cooler weather, you’re in for a treat. Along with the benefits of smaller crowds, you’ll find fun local events to fill your time. At Affordable Rentals, we’re here to help you explore the island’s beauty in a Jeep rental, support local businesses, and embrace the Halloween spirit. If you’re ready for a memorable fall on Nantucket, here are exciting events happening this October!
From October 6-9, grab your wallets to support local businesses and participate in the 5th annual Cobblestones and Cranberries, presented by the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce. The theme for this year is "Home for the Harvest." You increase your chances of winning prizes by visiting and shopping at local stores!
Grab a shopping bingo card from any participating business. When you spend at least $5 at the listed stores, you place a sticker on the Bingo card. Each sticker counts as one chance to win. Once you're done shopping, drop off your card at the Chamber of Commerce. Don't forget to vote for your favorite storefront as well!
Do you feel like adding a dash of adventure and challenge to your Nantucket vacation? The 11th Annual Nantucket Half Marathon and 10k on October 8th might be just what you're looking for. The route will give you a unique view of the island while you accomplish your fitness goals.
Kick-off is at Bartlett's Farm, offering ample parking for participants. Keep in mind that the race takes place on open roads. While the organizers have taken precautions with volunteers, police assistance, and signage, be aware of your surroundings throughout the race.
Online registration for the half marathon is $90, and is open until October 7 or until the race reaches capacity. Pick up your race packet at The Haul Over on 7 Salem Street, next to the downtown Stop and Shop grocery store.
End your October on Nantucket Island with a touch of spooky delight at the annual Halloween Parade on October 31. Don't forget to get creative and dress up in your best costumes. The costume contest starts at 3:30 p.m. at the bottom of Main Street, followed by the parade kick-off at the Lieutenant Max Wagner Memorial Fountain at 4 p.m.
After the parade, head to the Whaling Museum on 13 Broad Street, where the Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) is hosting ghostly activities and additional trick-or-treating from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Best of all, it's free of charge!
